It's Summer time and we're super excited about planning week-end trips to visit friends and family. We wanted to share with you some of our best packing trips for an overnight trip.

  1. Make a List! We know it seems like such a simple step but it should always be your first step.

  3. Charge it!  Charge all your technology accessories i.e. your cell phone/camera/laptop
the night before you leave for your trip.
  4. Keep it Light! Bring your tablet instead of a heavy hardcover book or multiple magazines.
  5. Check out the Francine Collections Site for a bag that suits your needs. We have Rollers and Soft Totes that can be used as Carry On Luggage. Photo: We were certainly in good company in Greenwich, CT. Here's Francine with ESPN founder Bill Rasmussen!

Recently, our CEO Francine Farkas Sears was a featured speaker at the Greenwich CEO Roundtable. Hosted by Bank of America and Inc. Magazine, the exclusive event focused on Thriving in a Down Economy – something Francine knows a lot about!  Bill Rasmussen, ESPN’s founder and Tariq Farid, Founder & President of Edible Arrangements, joined Francine on the panel.  Inc. Magazine’s Lewis Schiff served as the event’s moderator.

Here, some of Francine’s remarks:

Business in Difficult Times: How We Did It.

Francine: Women In Business is Fabrique's effort to generate new business in an under-served area. The present business cases in the market for women have been insulting to women in business. We have launched 2 fashion business collections: WIB and Francine Collections.

Schiff: What are some of the creative efforts that Fabrique has pursued to “Thrive in a Down Economy”?

Francine: The women's business case market has consistently been under-served and Fabrique has invested in developing our online Women In Business presence, our social media presence, as well as investing in new designs to service this market.

Schiff: How does the organization test new ideas?

Francine: Fabrique has launched 2 websites the Francine Collections and Women in Business Bags, both collections feature cases that are designed for women by women. We focused on this market based on the growing numbers of women's purchasing power in the technology market. Fabrique sponsored the Women's Presidents' Organization's Annual Conference in April 2012. Women In Business Metropolitan Notebook Cases were given to all 700 WPO Annual Conference Attendees.

Schiff: What problems does Fabrique solve for its clients?

Francine: Our Women In Business/Francine Collection features beautiful computer cases that fill a modern woman's desire for fashion and function.

Schiff: How do you know when to try a new idea and when to fold up the tent on an idea?

Francine: Start by asking questions like: "How can I invent the new wheel?" or "Can we do this better or differently from others. " Or simply, "Is there a market share not being served that makes room for this business category?"

LuxCaesar by Francine

Jun 12, 2012 8:10:19 PM

Who knew the recipe for a Caesar salad included 12 fabulous women and one tall, dark and handsome man?

Well, this isn’t just any salad – this is Francine’s Caesar salad. Recently, 12 lithe & lucky ladies, all attendees at a LUX-YOGA retreat, were the students in an impromptu cooking class, c/o of Francine. The setting: A villa on the Cote D’azur. Sound like the plot of a movie? Read on.

While LuxYoga’s talented and celebrated chef Sam looked on, Francine, an accomplished culinarian in her own right - she’s been featured in the New York Times for her recipes - shared her love of cooking with the group. Below, enjoy Francine’s personal Caesar salad recipe, complete with chef’s commentary.

LuxMom’s Caesar Salad:

Warning:

Whether served table side or "bedside'' this salad is an aphrodisiac.

Start with fresh, crisp Romaine Lettuce. Wash, dry & crisp. Tear long leaves crosswise. You’ll need one head of lettuce to serve 6, and 2 heads to serve 12.

CROUTONS: Cubed leftover bread, any kind. Sautee cubed bread in garlic, olive oil, salt and pepper. Dry & freeze. Pull from freezer as needed and heat slightly oven or toaster oven. Use croutons for salads or as a side with a glass of wine. If you use a boxed version of croutons, might as well skip the Caesar altogether and just have spaghetti.

DRESSING: Olive oil - 2/3 cup Red wine vinegar - 1/4 cup Fork mashed anchovies, use I tin of flat anchovies. For those who think they do not like anchovies – I promise they will disappear. Garlic - 4 cloves, mashed thru a garlic press. 1 egg boiled for 1 or 2 minutes. Then, separate yolk & add to this mixture - lemon juice from 1/2 lemon, a good amount of fresh ground pepper and some salt.

Whisk all above together, it will appear creamy. Taste! (Dressing serves 12) be sure leaves are nicely covered with dressing – not soggy. TOSS with lettuce and add ¾ cup grated Parmesan cheese. TOSS and add ground pepper.

Bon appétit! ………………….

Francine Farkas Sears spoke at the inaugural Fashioning Our Industry Conference at The NYC Yale Club about her participation in the 1970's fashion revolution in New York City. Francine shared her fashion philosophy with the audience that was comprised of New York City fashion industry professionals; fashion students, financiers, distinguished fashion lawyers and emerging designers. Her take on fashion? Fashion should be stylish, functional, approachable and available at a great price. Fashion is “Form and Function” working with you and not against you. The cases in The Francine Collection are for the customer who want to feel empowered when she steps into the Boardroom or into the PTA meeting.

Cooking Up a Storm

Feb 25, 2012 7:14:55 PM

One of Francine's passions is cooking and we'd like to share with you one of her favorite recipes: Chicken Bouillabaisse.

She was featured in a New York Times Magazine article discussing her philosophy on life, business, design and of course the unifying passion of cooking. Enjoy the recipe!

Chicken Bouillabaisse

1/2 cup coarsely chopped onions
1/4 cup coarsely chopped celery
1/4 cup peeled, coarsely chopped carrots
2 tablespoons finely chopped garlic
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1/2 teaspoon saffron threads
1 teaspoon grated lemon zest
1 teaspoon all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon fennel seeds
1/4 teaspoon herbes de Provence
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
4 half bone-in chicken breasts
4 chicken thighs
1 1/2 cups canned plum tomatoes, diced, with liquid
1 cup dry white wine
1 dried hot red chili pepper
5 medium red bliss or Yukon gold potatoes, scrubbed and halved
10 ounces chorizo sausage, cut into 1-inch lengths
24littleneck clams, well scrubbed
1 tablespoon Pernod
1 tablespoon chopped tarragon
Rouille (see recipe).

1. In a nonreactive bowl, stir together the onions, celery, carrots, garlic, olive oil, saffron, zest, flour, fennel seeds, herbes de Provence, salt and pepper. Add the chicken breasts and thighs and toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours.

2. Dump the chicken and marinade into a large pot. Add the tomatoes, wine, chili pepper and 1 1/2 cups water. Pierce the potato halves with a sharp skewer and add to the pot. Place over medium-high heat, cover and bring to a boil. Adjust heat and simmer gently, covered, for 25 minutes, stirring occasionally.

3. Add chorizo to the pot and cook, covered, 5 more minutes. Poke potatoes with a fork to see if they are just tender; continue to simmer until they are. When potatoes are tender, remove one potato half and 1/4 cup of liquid from the pot and set aside for the rouille. Add the clams, sticking them down into the liquid. Simmer until the clams open. Taste and adjust seasoning.

4. If a lot of clear fat has risen to the top of the soup, use a spoon to skim some off and discard. Stir in Pernod and tarragon. Ladle into bowls and serve, passing the rouille for guests to dollop into their bowls. Adapted from Francine Farkas Sears. Serves 8.

Rouille
1/2 cooked potato and 1/4 cup cooking liquid from chicken bouillabaisse (see recipe)
2 large cloves garlic, peeled
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 large egg yolk
1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
Salt to taste.

1. Peel potato and place with the cooking liquid in the container of a blender. Add the garlic, paprika and cayenne. Blend until very smooth.

2. Add the egg yolk and pulse to combine. With the motor running, very slowly drizzle in the olive oil. Season to taste with salt. Adapted from Francine Farkas Sears. Makes 1 cup.
